Marilyn (pink) by Steve Hamilton :  Unframed

born Norma Jeane Mortenson; June 1, 1926 – August 4, 1962) was an American actress, model, and singer. Famous for playing comedic “blonde bombshell” characters, she became one of the most popular acresses of the 1950s and early 1960s. She was a top-billed actress for only a decade, but her films grossed $200 million (equivalent to $2 billion in 2019) by the time of her death in 1962.

This work is a seven (7) layer stencil piece – hand cut and sprayed using quality graffiti spray paint.  A street based style to a glamour icon.

Size:  42cm x 59cm (work only)

The stencil is sprayed directly onto a pre-prepared coloured mount board (thick board).  Total preparation and spray time is over 15 hours.

This work is not a print.  It is an original piece. Prints are not made from any stencil produced by me.  They are “as sprayed”.  Each is individual and original in its own right.  The images show some of the process undertaken as well as an indicative wall-photo.

Being a stencil based piece, it retains the characteristics of street stencil work – spray marks, natural bubbles and the deliberately imperfect approach with stencils highlights its intent on celebrating the subject but also being real.  Being human is a hallmark of these works, with often less-seen images utilised in the works.
