Celebration of new life

Australian Wildlife Wooden Dolls – set of 4

Original artwork, one-of-a-kind, no wood and stroke is the same.

The inspiration comes from the beauty of wood grain. Every raw wooden doll has unique grain, just like human’s thumbprint. It happens that one of them has pattern of the shape of Koala’s nose and I started painting around it. While at the same time, taking additional inspiration from native flora and tender relationship between mother and her offspring, a celebration of new life! Koala, kangaroo / wallaby, platypus and wombat took shape nicely around the wood. I am still developing other creatures such as Echidna, Emu and Tassie Devil, which are more challenging than their four cousins.

To preserve the natural beauty of the grain, I never totally covered it with paint. Hence the selection of marker and colored pencils as media that promotes transparency and calming disposition. The set is perfect as memento of Australia’s unique and special animal diversity; it urges the importance to preserve their home, which is crucial for their survival.
