Additional Information

The focus of this painting is on hope stemming from hard work, setting targets and being ambitious. Ambition and Tantalising Targets tells a story of a person leaving work late at night; the other office workers left hours ago. The streets are empty. By escaping the dysfunctional alley in an Audi TT this person is rewarded by their own ambition.

The Audi TT is recognised as a design icon because the creators targeted a systematic and meticulous Bauhaus ethos. In doing so they created a car that is now readily accepted as a design masterpiece for a sports coupe.

The light beams in the laneway have been re-imagined from the book to be like the spoke of a wheel. Success or failure doesn’t have to be measured in monetary terms. Placing a symmetrical car in the foreground acts as a divergence from the narrow alley with its dangerous steps, crazy poles and precarious street wiring.

Ambition and Tantalising Targets was inspired from the front cover of a book: No Exit. The author is Gideon Lewis-Kraus. In opposition to a focus on hope and ambition, he writes about the cruel and short-lived world of High Tech start-up companies in California’s legendary Silicon Valley.
